Priya is an Associate Director in the social and political teams at Opinium, with over 7 years of research experience. She works with a range of organisations from universities, charities, and think tanks to influence policy and understand public attitudes and experiences across various issues. She specialises in researching underrepresented and vulnerable audiences.

Priya co-leads the Opinium Diversity & Inclusion team, which focuses on driving change in organisational processes and policy, inclusivity and accessibility in the workplace and in research design, and Opinium’s voice as a force of social good (through using research to amplify voices of groups that are often underrepresented).

Priya also heads up Opinium’s Multicultural Britain & Multicultural Voices annual thought leadership engaging with ethnic minorities in the UK and USA to track discrimination rates and shifts in perceptions of identity, and to understand what brands could do to be more authentically inclusive.

Why did you sign up to be a judge for The Pros Awards 2024?

In an industry that has more work to do in terms of diversity, The Pros Awards creates a platform to highlight and celebrate the amazing Black, Asian, Mixed Race and Ethnic Minority PR and comms pros, and to celebrate inclusive work. The Pro Awards 2023 was also the most fun industry awards I have been to!

As before we’ve got a great DJ booked for The Pros Awards awards ceremony in July – what’s your dancefloor-filler request?

Being reminded about Barbie, I’ve got to go with Dance The Night!

What was your favourite PR/comms story from 2023 and why?
The Barbie campaign was huge and everywhere! Everyone was talking about it. The iconic pink billboards. The pink AirBnB dreamhouse. The many other collaborations. The Barbenheimer memes. The Selfie Generator. And so on, and on and on! The marketing was fun, interesting and really made you want to join in and watch the movie.
